Dragon Tongue Beans, Fresh Black Currants and Wild Maine Blueberries.

Dragon Tongue Beans, Fresh Black Currants and Wild Maine Blueberries.

Coolest thing in the cooler: Richter’s Black Currants.  You know Richter Rhubarb, this is the same farm.  These are remarkable: they taste like red meat, pepper and dark berries.  Beyond the pastry kitchen, these would be excellent on duck, quail, squab, lamb or venison.

Wild Maine Blueberries have started up, and they’re super tasty. Native-style Strawberries from Canada are still available.  From Frog Hollow: Peaches, Nectarines (current favorite), Plums and Pluots.  Limited Santa Rosa Plums from Knoll Farm.  Fresh and local Sour Cherries are available and make

An incredible array of local summer beans are here.  Tricolor Snow Peas, from Caribou Lake Organics are tender, sweet and hold a lot of their color if flash-seared or barely cooked.  Green and Yellow Romano Beans are going strong.  Beautiful tricolor pole beans (a mix of green, purple and wax) arrived from Maine.

Heirloom Melons from Full Belly Farms: Galia, Ambrosia, and Sharlyn are here.  Each one we’ve cracked into has been fragrant and luscious.

Returning Monday: Lemon Cucumbers and Native Corn!

Gapping:  Duck Eggs from Maine temporarily unavailable.  Local berry availability changes daily depending on weather.  Native Raspberries and Blackberries are sporadic and not available every day  are no longer available.

86: garlic scapes, chive blossoms

Mixed Medley Tomatoes, Santa Rosa Plums, Sour Cherries

Summer is in full swing.

From Terra Firma Farm:  first of the season Heirloom Tomatoes, from California, now in.  From Full Belly Farms, we have  “mixed medley” tomatoes.  Knoll Farm Santa Rosa Plums and Yellow Nectarines are here. Native Strawberries are plentiful and sweet.  Fresh arrival of Native Blueberries from Ward’s here.  Black Mission are in pints, and gorgeous.  Champagne Grapes just started up.

From the Larder:  if you’re looking for a summer-weight vinegar to enhance all your sexy veg and stone fruits, without covering them up, consider Acetorium’s white balsamic vinegar.  Made from a late-harvest Sylvaner and Riesling blend, this well-balanced, slightly syrupy acetified wine adds sweetness and tartness without getting in the way.  These vinegar from Acetoria are among the best we’ve tried.  By the 250 ml bottle.  Specify “small bottle” on your order.

86: Green Garlic, Chive Blossoms

Also happening: We had two great tours of the shop this week.  Big thanks to the crews of Toro Boston and Flour Bakery for coming out to visit us!  Call to schedule a tour for you and your crew so they can learn about all the love we put into selecting the very best for you.

Lemon Verbena, Frog Hollow Apricots, Native Asparagus

Summer is the best.

Frog Hollow fresh arrival of Peaches, Apricots and Plums this Friday. Lemon Verbena Wednesday, limited quantities.  Fresh arrival of Native Asparagus from Hadley, MA in this morning.  Black Mission are now in pints, and gorgeous.  Rainier cherries are no longer Frog Hollow, but commercial are available.  Bing Cherries in full swing.  Six dozen pullet eggs left for the season- perfect for a weekend special.

Say goodbye to Knoll Farm greens: fava leaves, rapini, pea tendrils, green garlic- all winding down rapidly.  Will be gone before the week is over- menu change time.  Don’t bother with romanesco right now- it’s just not that nice.

Rumor has it:  *limited* quantities of Native strawberries will be available for the next two days, and will likely gap again after that for the remainder of the week.  Knoll Farms *might* pick some Santa Rosa plums for us today, if they think they are ripe enough.  We will know for sure when our shipment arrives tomorrow.  NJ blueberries should begin soon.

86: Spring Dug Parsnips, Ramps, NJ Asparagus

Also happening: We will be out on the town for the next two days with Benjamin Butler, the miller and pasta maker from Hayden Mills, in Arizona.  In case you missed it, these folks mill heirloom semolina and flour to order for us from varieties such as Blue Beard Durum, and White Sonora Wheat.  Call us if you’d like a visit!

Springcrest Peaches and Maine Pullet Eggs

Chanterelle & Porcini Mushrooms are here.

Fitz Kelley “Debutante” yellow clingstone peaches are here.  Black Mission and Brown Turkey Figs are just starting, though somewhat sporadic.  Cherries are getting darker, tastier and more juicy.  East Coast strawberries from Delaware are available now.  Chive blossoms available.

We are now the official distributor for Rhei Maid Gochujang and Doenjang.  For those of you that don’t already know, Mary Rhei makes incredible versions of these traditional Korean ingredients, learned from her mom, based on family recipes that date back to royal times.  We will spotlight this remarkable producer soon, so stay tuned.  If you’re used to commercial stuff, this is seriously next-level.  If you want to try samples of these two products, please, let us know and we’ll send some out to you with your next delivery.

Coming Tuesday: Pullet Eggs. For those of you that don’t know, when a laying chicken is young (a pullet is under one year) and just starts to lay eggs, she lays smaller eggs.  These tasty little eggs are great match for asparagus, since they’re both only around in the spring.  They also make a cute deviled egg, beet-pickled egg, or scotch egg.  They’re awesome for putting on pizza.  Organic, from Crown O’ Maine.  Available by the dozen.  $2.25 /dozen.

Also available in cases of 30 dozen, pre-order only, significant bulk discount available- call and speak to Alison.

86, Done for the Season: French White Asparagus, Bluefoot Mushrooms, Muscat Grapes, Chantaney Carrots, Cara Cara Pink Navels, Kumquats, Onion Blossoms

Ending soon: Ramps (7 – 10 days), Green Garlic

Rhei Maid- Chelsea, MA
